HCL ME Y3 vs Mercury mTab StreaQ: Dual SIM Tablet Fight Gets Fiercer in India
According to a recent market research, the dual SIM devices are being highly used due to their growing popularity. Over 71 million subscribers in the country are using multiple SIM cards and 61% of multi-SIM handsets are dual SIM. With the increasing popularity of dual SIM based smartphones, the tablet manufacturers have also started incorporating dual SIM technology in their offerings.
The Indian tablet space is filled with excess of dual SIM tablets and these devices have always been successful, as they are packed with decent specs and come with attractive price tags.
On Tuesday, HCL released its first dual SIM tablet - ME Y3, which was on pre-order online at a price of Rs 11,999. The HCL ME tablet lineup contains several Android tablets with impressive features and mainly, they come with reasonable price tags.
While HCL has entered the dual SIM tablet segment only recently, a few other players have already stepped into the booming market segment a few months back.
One such company is Mercury, which launched a dual SIM tablet dubbed as mTab StreaQ in December 2012. Priced at Rs 11,490, Mercury mTab StreaQ comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, quite comparable to the new HCL offering.
Consequently, Gizbot has come up with a spec comparison on both HCL ME Y3 and Mercury mTab StreaQ. Read it below and decide which dual SIM tablet will suit your requirements.
Display: Both ME Y3 and mTab StreaQ fair equal, as they pack a 7 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel display.
Processor: In this segment, mTab StreaQ scores more with a slightly faster 1.2GHz Cortex A9 processor as compared to the 1GHz Cortex A9 processor in ME Y3.
Operating System: When it comes to operating system, ME Y3 is flavored with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, whereas, mTab StreaQ runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With an incremental version of Android OS that supports home screen widgets and enhanced user experience, the HCL tablet gets a higher rating in the section.
Camera: On the camera optics front, both ME Y3 and mTab StreaQ have a 2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front camera for video calling. Well, just expect an average camera performance though, from both of the offerings.
Storage: mTab StreaQ scores more weightage with 8GB internal storage as compared to the 4GB internal memory in ME Y3. However, both the tablets come with a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage. So those interested in downloading plethora of apps can go for the former choice.
Connectivity: Detailing on data connectivity, mTab StreaQ and ME Y3 are packed with features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and dual SIM connectivity. And of course, both the tablets will support 3G connectivity, offering good internet browsing.
Battery: When it comes to power backup, ME Y3 is loaded with a 3,100 mAh battery and mTab StreaQ is equipped with a 3,600 mAh battery, which is almost equal providing, a full day average usage comfortably.
Verdict
Both HCL ME Y3 and Mercury mTab StreaQ come with dual SIM support and boast similar specifications and operating system. Also, they are priced almost similarly. However, being made by different manufacturers, they will be having few differences.
Coming to HCL ME Y3, the tablet does not support Google Play, but has HCL ME App Store support. Moreover, it runs on Android 4.0.4, which comes with a set of improvements including enhanced screen rotation, faster, smoother and better camera app, improved multi-tasking animation and more.
On the other hand, Mercury mTab StreaQ comes with a faster processor, increased internal storage for more application support and improved battery spec and the likes of Google Play store.
