Small tablets led by Apple iPad Mini seem to be the big sellers this holiday season and could become the majority of tablets. Tablets with 8 inch displays will open the market to new buyers who are attracted to their more portable size and cheaper price.
Apple entered the small tablet market with its iPad Mini in order to capture the small tablet market segment that is dominated by the 7 inch Android tablets, but with a near 8 inch display the tablet has created its own segment with many followers launching such similar devices.
Following the same lines, last week, Karbonn Velox Tab, an 8-inch offering from the Indian manufacturer was spotted online. Now, it seems like Karbonn has launched the device in the Indian market at a competitive price tag of Rs 7,025.
Karbonn Velox Tab packs an 8 inch display and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. As of now, the tablet is available for purchase from online retailer Saholic.com, which is the retail arm of Spice.
At the same time, Swipe Telecom, a California based manufacturer has also launched an 8 inch Jelly Bean tablet dubbed as Velocity Tab recently into the Indian market at an attractive price of Rs 11,490.
Below is a comparison between the newly launched 8 inch Android Jelly Bean tablet offerings available at budget price tags. Read it and decide which is a good buy.
Dimensions and Weight: While the dimensions and weight of Velox Tab 8 are not known, Velocity Tab measures 209 x 163 x 0.5 mm and weighs in at 330 grams.
Display: When it comes to display, both Velox Tab 8 and Velocity Tab have an 8 inch HD capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. However, the Swipe offering has an IPS panel with 5-point multi-touch support.
Processor: In this segment, Velox Tab 8 comes with a 1.5GHz dual core processor, whereas, Velocity Tab has a dual core Cortex A9 processor of unknown clock speed.
Operating System: On the OS front, both the tablets score the same with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS including new features such as Project Butter, expandable and contractible notifications, resizable app widgets, live wallpaper preview, high resolution contact photos, improved Android Beam and many more.
Camera: When it comes to camera optics, Velox Tab 8 has a 3MP rear camera and a VGA front camera, on the other hand, Velocity Tab has a 2MP rear camera and 1.3MP front camera for video calling.
Storage: In terms of storage, the Karbonn offering has 1.5GB in-built storage and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.
In comparison, Swipe tablet has 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage and expandable storage up to 32GB by means of micro SD card slot.
Connectivity: On the connectivity front, Velox Tab 8 and Velocity Tab comes packed with Wi-Fi, 3G through Dongle and HDMI ports. Further, the Karbonn offering scores more with the presence of Bluetooth support.
Battery: As claimed by the companies, both the devices are powered by a 4,500 mAh battery.
Price: Speaking of pricing, Karbonn Velox Tab 8 and Swipe Velocity Tab are priced at Rs 7,025 and Rs 11,490 respectively.
Analyzing the specs and pricing, both Karbonn Velox Tab 8 and Swipe Velocity Tab seem to be good offerings with pretty decent spes and reasonable price tags.
If the concern is on a relatively lesser price tag, Bluetooth connectivity support and a faster processor, Karbonn Velox Tab 8 could be a better choice.
On the other hand, if the concern is on a better display, improved front camera performance and increased internal storage option, the Swipe ofering should be the right option.
