Micromax Canvas LapTab 2-in-1 First Look: It’s the best sub-Rs 15,000 Laptop money can buy
The Micromax Canvas LapTab is a 2-in-1 detachable that gives you both a 10-inch tablet and laptop for less than the cost of an Apple iPad Air 2. Made in association with Intel, the Canvas LapTap is powered by Windows 8.1 operating system.
Priced at Rs. 14,999, the Micromax Canvas LapTab hybrid features a 10-inch touchscreen, Intel Atom processor Z3735F, 2GB of RAM and 32GB hard drive wrapped in a plastic chassis.
So, does it make sense for Micromax to move into the laptop market with a 2-in-1?
- Practical Design
- Amazing Value for Money
- 3G SIM Support
- Not so great Display
- Keyboard dock is heavy
For one, it'll be going up against a flurry of 2-in-1 hybrid laptops. That's no simple challenge, especially within the crowded hybrid laptop market. But more importantly, this is a departure for the domestic firm's usual staple of smartphones.
We took some time to enjoy a walk-through highlighting new features of the Micromax's Canvas LapTab and to see how the hardware stands up to the pricing.
Micromax Canvas LapTab 2-in-1 First Look: Form Factor, Design, Display and Operating System
The design of the Canvas LapTab isn't drastically different from other hybrid 2-in-1 laptops. The plastic chassis is coated with a smooth silver finish, giving it an aluminum-like feeling. The design is mature and well balanced, both on the desk and on the lap.
The Canvas LapTab's keyboard dock is heavy, which rises when combined with the tablet. Typing on the Canvas LapTab's keyboard was mostly pleasant, as I was able to type my name with ease. The LapTab's touchpad was smooth and responsive.
In terms of connectivity and ports, you'll get to see a microSD slot, a microUSB port, a microphone/headphone combo and a built-in 3G SIM slot, while the keyboard dock sports a USB 2.0.The price might be low, but Micromax hasn't cut corners on connectivity.
The 720p HD touchscreen on the Canvas LapTab is good, with decent viewing angles, and reasonably accurate colour.
The Canvas LapTab runs the latest Windows 8.1 OS out of the box. The hybrid is relatively free of bloatware.
It will be upgradeable to Windows 10 and also offer a one-year Office 365 personal subscription worth approximately Rs 11,798, which also includes 1TB of free OneDrive storage.
Micromax Canvas LapTab 2-in-1 First Look: Performance
In terms of specifications, the Canvas LapTab is powered by a 1.33GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F processor coupled with 2GB of DDR3L RAM. It sports 32GB of inbuilt storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card.
The embedded processor should be good for handling multitasking demanding, though we're not sure how the device will be able to handle high-end graphics games and apps.
Micromax Canvas LapTab 2-in-1 First Look: Cameras
The Canvas LapTab offers a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera. There's a 2MP front camera, which does a reasonable job. It provides video quality that's good enough for video chats, but struggles with bright condition.
Micromax Canvas LapTab 2-in-1 First Look: Battery and Early Verdict
The low-end hybrid laptop is powered by a 7700mAh battery, which is rated to offer a usage time of 10 hours. Basically, what we have here is a good-looking, well-built laptop with a decent screen and reasonable battery life at a price that should be fair for many users. It's the best sub-Rs. 15,000 laptop money can buy.
