Microsoft To Announce Surface 2 on September 23
Microsoft Surface RT was a big disappointment for the software giant. The failure of Surface RT not wiped out $900 million from company's stock, but it also shook confidence of investors in Microsoft. The tech vendor recently slashed retail price of Surface RT, so that consumers interest in the device affirm. Now, the latest gossip around Surface RT is that Microsoft is sending press invites forSeptember 23 for Surface related event (via GigaOM).

The event will take place in New York City. Most probably, Microsoft will announce Surface RT 2 alongside the Surface Pro 2. Moreover, the supposed Surface RT 2 will have Nvidia Tegra 4 Processor. In terms of specifications, the next-generation Surface RT 2 is said to have a 10.1-inch display having resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is said that the tablet will be different from its predecessor in respect to design. It will have black bezels, which was not present in the first gen Surface RT tablet.
Moreover, the tablet should be fast and zippy - thanks to the inclusion of Windows 8.1. It is to be seen whether Microsoft continues to charge an equivalent to Apple or not. The Surface RT 2 will complete against forthcoming Apple iPad 5. Apart from the Surface RT 2, Microsoft is gearing to announce Surface Pro 2. The first generation device was well received though.
According to multiple reports, the next gen Surface Pro would have Intel's latest gen processor (Haswell). It would have 8GB of RAM, and better battery life. Other details are yet to be confirmed.
iPad Mini 2 vs. Surface RT 2
The competition is rather tough in this space. In the coming days, Apple could announce its iPad Mini with Retina display. Microsoft need to position in such a manner, so that the Surface RT 2 can compete against Apple's forthcoming tablet device. The biggest challenge is front of Microsoft: Surprisingly pricing of Surface RT 2 matters the most.
