Bending the hardware and software of the device, which suits the requirement of the target customers, is not a big-thing as we have already seen a number of devices, especially tablets curved out for students, off late. However, so far, Windows running slates were quite missing the fun in this section. But wait, this time Microsoft has officially launched its Windows 8.1 tablet in the Indian market.
The tablet called Iconia W4-820, which most Windows' fans are quite familiar with, comes from Chinese PC maker Acer. The software giant has in fact collaborated with Acer, MBD Group and Tata Tele-services to offer this tablet for private schools in India. The tablet comes with a price tag of Rs 24,999. Also the tablets will be available to all private schools (K6-12) in India.
One reason why this tablet will fit the students' requirements is because Microsoft has integrated Office Home and Student as well as Office 365 with it. Moreover, it has also included Office 365 Education A2 and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification for students.
Also an optional benefit comes in with the device. Tata Teleservices is providing Photon Plus for high speed Internet services on the move. Customers opting for Photon Plus will get 1 GB of free data usage every month for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. The cost of the device along with 1 GB free data usage would be Rs 3,649.
"The specially created bundle comprises a Windows 8.1 tablet - an Acer Iconia W4-820, which comes with a HD IPS display with enhanced brightness for reading in sunlight and runs on the latest Quad Core Intel Atom Processor," Microsoft India said in a statement.
The bundle also includes digital learning curriculum for students of K-12 state boards, CBSE and ICSE from publishing house MBD Group. The interactive multimedia content from the same company is currently available in English and will soon be available in various regional languages as well, Microsoft said.
If the company has not modified the specs, it will come with 8.1 inch display, 1.86 GHz quad-core processor, Windows 8.1 OS, 5-mega pixel camera, 2-mega pixel camera, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 and HDMI options.
