New Apple iPad with Pencil support launched; Price in India, specifications and features

At the Creative Education event in Chicago, Apple announced a new refreshed 9.7-inch iPad with support for Apple Pencil. This new iPad uses Apple's A10 Fusion chip, which was used by the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The hardware features are quite familiar and there is a 9.7-inch Retina display as its name points out.

With the support for Apple Pencil, Pages (the documentation app) is compatible with Smart Annotation, which lets users scribble over a file. The new iPad features Touch ID, an HD FaceTime camera, LTE option, and many more features. The iBooks author app will let Teachers stitch digital books together. Running iOS 11, this latest generation affordable iPad is aimed at the students.

Detailing on its specifications, the iPad 9.7-inch (2018) is fitted with a 9.7-inch fully laminated Retina Display with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, Apple Pencil support as mentioned earlier and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels translating to 264 ppi pixel density. Under its hood, the Apple A10 Fusion chip is paired with M10 co-processor and the device comes in 32GB or 128GB storage variants.

The 9.7 iPad (2018) flaunts an 8MP camera at its rear with f/2.4 aperture, panorama support up to 43MP, and FHD 1080p video recording capability. There is a 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera at the front with f/2.2 aperture. The connectivity features include dual-channel Wi-Fi, HT80 with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, and optional 4G LTE. The affordable iPad gets the power from a 32.4-watt-hour rechargeable LiPo battery capable of lasting up to 10 hours of usage.

The new iPad 9.7-inch model has been launched in three color variants - Silver, Space Gray and Gold. It is priced at $329 (approx. Rs. 21,300) for the general consumers and $299 (approx. Rs. 19,300) for the school students. The pre-orders have already debuted and the shipping will debut this week. The Logitech Crayon stylus for this new 9.7-inch iPad is priced at $49 (approx. Rs. 3,000) and there is a rugged keyboard case as well from Logitech. The Apple Pencil is priced at $89 (approx. Rs. 5,700) for the students and $99 (approx. Rs. 6,400) for the general consumers.

When it comes to the Indian availability, the new 9.7-inch iPad will be priced at Rs. 28,000 and Rs. 38,600 for the 32GB Wi-Fi and 32GB Wi-Fi+LTE variants respectively. The Apple Pencil will be available separately for Rs. 7,600. The sale will debut in India in April via Apple Authorized Resellers.
