Apple iPad Pro OLED Models Launch Delayed: Could Debut Ahead of WWDC 2024

Apple is gearing up to introduce its latest iPad Pro and iPad Air models, following a series of leaks and reports that have set the tech community abuzz. The forthcoming tablets are anticipated to feature larger displays and be powered by new chipsets, marking a significant update from their predecessors.

Initially expected to launch in April, a new timeline has been proposed, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicating an early May reveal, a notable adjustment from previous predictions.

Apple iPad Pro OLED Models Delayed

According to Gurman, this delay aligns with Apple's strategy to finalize "software work for the devices" and master "complex new manufacturing techniques" for the innovative displays anticipated on these models.

This shift in schedule places the unveiling just before Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) set to commence on June 10. Meanwhile, suppliers are ramping up production in anticipation of the launch.

The new iPad Pro models, identified by their codenames J717, J718, J720, and J721, are rumored to incorporate Apple's M3 chipset, alongside support for updated versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

iPad Pro OLED Models: What to Expect

There's also buzz around Apple exploring OLED technology for these screens. The iPad Air is expected to expand its display size to 12.9 inches, a significant leap from the current 10.9-inch offering, powered by the M2 chipset and potentially featuring landscape-oriented front cameras for an enhanced user experience.

Further leaks hint at design refinements for the iPad Pro models, with thinner bezels that reduce the frame size by 10 to 15 percent compared to the 2022 versions. These adjustments are expected for both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants, offering both glossy and matte screen options to cater to user preferences.

Apple only recently announced the date for its annual developer conference, WWDC 2024. AI is expected to take center stage at the event, although Apple is also expected to announce updates across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS.
