Rumors Suggest Apple is Set to Launch Refreshed iPads This Week
Apple enthusiasts may have something to look forward to this week, with reports hinting at potential iPad updates. According to recent information from 9to5Mac and Supercharged, Apple might announce spec upgrades for three iPad models, including the base model, iPad Air, and iPad Mini. While some sources remain cautious about the extent of these updates, here's what you need to know about the possible iPad refresh and the timeline for upcoming MacBook models.
iPad Updates: Incremental Improvements Expected
Apple's iPad lineup may see incremental improvements, with the iPad Air and iPad Mini likely receiving updates to their processors. Reports suggest that the iPad Air could receive an M2 chip, while the iPad Mini is expected to get the A16 Bionic chip. It's been a while since the iPad Mini received a significant update, with the last being the A15 Bionic chip.

Aside from processor upgrades, there's speculation about an update to the iPad Mini's display controller to address the "jelly scroll" issue. However, these changes don't appear to be part of a major overhaul, so don't expect revolutionary updates like OLED displays, as rumored for the next iPad Pro.
MacBook Models on the Horizon
While iPad updates seem to be in the pipeline, MacBook enthusiasts may need to exercise patience. Apple insider Mark Gurman suggests that despite initial plans for a release this month, the launch of new iPad Air, iPad Mini, and entry-level iPad models is not imminent. Gurman's recent statement is more ambiguous than his previous assertion that there would be no iPad releases this month.
As for MacBook models, Gurman anticipates the introduction of new 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 15-inch MacBook Air models in the first half of 2024. Notably, he hasn't commented on the iMac or other Mac devices.
A Departure from Tradition?
Apple typically unveils new iPads in October, following the release of iPhones and Apple Watches. However, this year, there seems to be a departure from the norm, with hints of delayed iPad updates. Last month, renowned Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that new iPad models are unlikely to be announced before the year's end. If this holds true, it would be the first year in the iPad's 13-year history without any new iPad releases.
