Amazon Plans For A Futuristic Glass Building At Seattle

A Seattle design review board has approved Amazon.com's plan to build a five-story office building. The design plans shows the structure being formed by three intersecting spheres, which promises to be the most eye-catching element on its gigantic Denny Triangle campus.

Now that it has received approval from the board, the plan requires a a green signal from Seattle's planning and development department so that a building permit can be issued.

By combining glass along with steel and three spheres, the building will feature five floors of workspace totaling 65,000 square feet. The design would be able to accommodate "mature trees" according to the plans. The structure will also include about 18,000 square feet of retail space.

According to the project's proposal, the design intends to "create an alternative environment" which will allow employees to work and socialize in a more natural, parklike setting. The structure will be filled with trees, certain specific varieties of flora and other elements that will allow its insides to feel refreshing and natural.

Amazon is trying to strike a different chord during a building boom of glass boxes and low-rise metal-clad apartments. Apart from this structure, the company also plans a 38-story tower on that block, which might just have an even more refreshing design.

When will the company start constructing the proposed structure? There isn't any information on that as yet.
