Google Cancelling Pre-Orders Of Pixel Fold: Random Payment Verification And Other Issues Right Before Shipment

Order cancellations are quite common from online marketplaces such as Amazon, Flipkart, and others. However, Google has been randomly canceling pre-orders for its first-ever foldable Android smartphone.

Google has been canceling multiple pre-orders for the $2000 Pixel Fold. The search giant started taking pre-orders in May, and several buyers waiting for the shipment notice of their premium foldable Android smartphone from Google were instead greeted with cancelation emails.

Why Is Google Cancelling Pre-Orders Of Pixel Fold Smartphones?

Some buyers who pre-ordered the Pixel Fold have discovered that Google is canceling their orders right before it was time to ring up the order just before it is shipped. The primary reason appears to be the bank or the credit card submitted with the order can't seem to verify to Google that the funds are available.

Simply put, it appears to be a banking or credit card problem, and Google has been forced to cancel orders as they seem to be fraudulent or placed mistakenly. Incidentally, Google is aware of the issue and has been discussing the same with individuals who faced them.

One customer wrote, "I did the chat support for the issue and essentially pleaded that they don't cancel my order. (My bank declined 4 times until I woke up and texted it was an authorized charge). I never received any other update from Google itself saying to update payment or cancellation or anything. [I] just hope it goes through. [It] is lack of transparency on Google's part."

Google Support reportedly informed a Redditor that they are looking into the situation. Google is also recommending customers experiencing these order cancellations not place a new or repeat order.

Google has mentioned that phone calls have been spiking because such cases are piling up. The representative also assured that Google would issue an update in the next day or two.

How Long Will Buyers Have To Wait For Their Google Pixel Fold?

It is strange to note that several buyers have indicated they cleared the issue with their banks or credit card issuers. However, Google has been canceling orders at its end. The search giant maintains that "it's a known bug to try and clear this up for me within 24 hours."

Those who pre-ordered the Pixel Fold, expected it to receive it late this month or sometime in July. However, they now have to wait substantially longer. Incidentally, the waiting period depends on the iteration of the Google Pixel Fold ordered.

Buyers will have to wait until August 30th to September 8th for the 256GB Pixel Fold model in Porcelain, August 2nd to August 10th for the 256GB model in Obsidian, and September 13th to the September 21st for the 512GB variant in Obsidian.
