Huawei Reportedly Working on a ChatGPT-Like Tool Called NetGPT

With the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, most companies have been in a rush to either adopt the technology into their application or to come up with their in-house chatbot.

Google introduced its chatbot called Bard, and now it appears that Huawei is also planning a chatbot reportedly in the works, apparently called NetGPT.

Huawei Reportedly Working on a ChatGPT-Like Tool Called NetGPT

Huawei is reported to have submitted a trademark application to China's trademark patent office to patent the name "Huawei NetGPT". Given the name the company has chosen to patent, it is reasonable to expect that Huawei has plans for an AI chatGPT-like chatbot.

Huawei Central first spotted the trademark. The trademark is said to fall under the Class 9 category, which includes scientific instruments. Its status is listed as pending.

Apart from that, not much is currently known about Huawei's homegrown chatbot. There were no other details given in the trademark filing either.

Huawei had already mentioned in the past that it would prefer to focus on building AI technologies rather than integrate chatGPT into its product. So, this discovery falls in line with what Huawei has claimed earlier.

Having said that, Huawei hasn't given any indication at present to confirm that it is indeed coming up with its version of chatGPT. So we'll need to wait and watch until more news regarding the chatbot comes out.

However, in the tech world at large, it's not just Huawei that seems keen to dip its toes into the domain of AI technology. Chinese tech company Baidu also unveiled its version of chatGPT called Ernie Bot just last month.

Alibaba too is said to be testing its chatGPT tool called "Tongyi Qianwen". Elon Musk also announced that Twitter would come up with its version of chatGPT known as TruthGPT, which would focus on politics.

Meanwhile, amid numerous companies proposing to introduce their variant of the chatGPT AI chatbot, many governments, such as Italy, China, and France have also raised concerns regarding its generative platform.
