Airtel Affordable Voice-Only Prepaid Plans Launching Tomorrow: Check Pricing And Key Benefits
Bharti Airtel has introduced three prepaid packs aimed at users who mainly need voice calling and SMS, not mobile data. The new recharges are priced at Rs 185, Rs 203 and Rs 206, and arrive ahead of the October 21 compliance deadline set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
The move is important for customers who still use mobile connections largely for calls, banking alerts, OTPs, family communication or secondary SIMs. Many such users have had to buy data-led prepaid bundles even when they did not need internet access on that number.

Airtel calling-only Prepaid Packs: Price, Availidity and Benefits
All three Airtel prepaid packs offer unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, along with 300 SMS. None of the packs includes mobile data. Airtel is also bundling HelloTunes with these plans at no extra cost, though the main appeal remains basic connectivity at lower recharge values.
| Plan price | Validity | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Rs 185 | 28 days | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 203 | 30 days | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
| Rs 206 | One calendar month | Unlimited calls, 300 SMS |
The Rs 206 pack may be useful for subscribers who prefer recharging on the same date every month. A calendar-month validity avoids the gradual shift in recharge dates that happens with 28-day plans, which can require 13 recharges in a year.
Prepaid users can access the new Airtel plans through the Airtel app and the company’s website. Airtel may add more such options later, including longer-validity packs, depending on demand and usage patterns among voice-first subscribers.
Why TRAI Pushed for SMS and Calling-only Plans
The new packs follow the Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026, notified by TRAI on September 22. The regulator had noted that subscribers looking for basic calling and messaging plans had limited low-cost choices, especially for short validity cycles.
TRAI’s intervention came after complaints that voice and SMS-only options were difficult to find on recharge platforms. Users often encountered more prominent data-inclusive packs, even when their requirement was limited to calls and texts. The rules are intended to improve visibility and choice for such customers.
Under the amended regulations, telecom operators must offer calling and SMS-only vouchers matching the validity of their data plans of 30 days or less. The requirement applies to Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and BSNL. Operators must also place these plans under a dedicated section on recharge platforms.
Airtel’s rollout makes it the first major operator to introduce the new category before the deadline. The change could particularly help elderly users, feature phone customers, low-data users and people maintaining secondary SIM cards for calls, SMS alerts and account verification.
