Airtel Launches VoWiFi Service In Delhi-NCR: List Of Compatible Smartphones
Airtel has finally announced the launch of its much-awaited voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) services, called Airtel Calling in India. The company has launched this service in the Delhi NCR region and will soon expand to other parts of the country.
"Airtel WiFi Calling' is designed to enhance voice calling experience for Airtel smartphone customers, especially when they are indoors. With the service, customers with WiFi at home or office will get excellent signal quality indoors. There will be no extra charge for calls made over 'Airtel WiFi Calling' and the application consumes minimal data, " the telco in a statement said.
The newly launched service will allow users to make calls over Wi-Fi without any extra charges. Moreover, users do not require downloading any app to use this service. It can be configured on the smartphone by these steps.
Step 1: First you need to check the compatibility of a smartphone on airtel.in/wifi-calling.
Step 2. Then you have to upgrade the OS to the latest version that supports this service.
Step 3: After that, you have to go to settings on the smartphone and switch on Wi-Fi calling.
Start 4: For using this service you have to keep VoLTE switched on.
However, to use this service you need to check the list of compatible smartphones. At present, this service is available on the iPhone 6s series and above, Redmi K20, K20 Pro, POCO F1, Samsung J6, A10s, On6, M30s, and all OnePlus 7 models.
Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer, Bharti Airtel said, "Seamless indoor coverage has been a key ask from mobile customers but getting permissions for site installations has always been a big challenge for mobile operators, particularly in top metros."
It is worth mentioning that, Airtel is also in talks with other smartphone players to roll out 'Airtel Wi-Fi Calling'. At present, this service is compatible with Airtel Xstream Fiber Home broadband and Wi-Fi hotspots. But soon this service will be compatible with all broadband services.
