Airtel Launches Xstream AirFiber: India's First 5G Fixed-Wireless Access Service in Mumbai & Delhi
Airtel has officially launched its Xstream AirFiber service, marking India's inaugural 5G Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA) offering. This move has placed Airtel ahead of its competitor, Reliance Jio, in the race to provide efficient and high-speed wireless connectivity. Let's delve into the comprehensive overview of Airtel's 5G FWA service.
A New Milestone: Xstream AirFiber by Airtel
Despite the anticipation surrounding Jio AirFiber's introduction last year, it has not yet been made available to the public. Airtel has leveraged this opportunity to seize the market with its Xstream AirFiber service. This strategic move has enabled Airtel to surpass Reliance Jio and take the lead in the race to provide 5G FWA services.

Xstream AirFiber: A Comprehensive Overview
Tower-Style Design for Seamless Connectivity
Airtel's Xstream AirFiber device stands out with its tower-style design, offering a plug-and-play experience for users. The device, which is WiFi 6 compatible, promises high-speed connectivity, making it an excellent solution for areas with limited fiber-optic coverage. This technology contributes to enhancing both urban and rural last-mile connectivity across India.
The Power of Fixed-Wireless Access
Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA) revolutionizes how users access high-speed internet. By eliminating the need for physical cables like optical cables and copper lines, the Xstream AirFiber device simplifies connectivity. Installing the FWA device at home enables seamless wireless data transfer between devices, significantly enhancing convenience and flexibility.
Seamless Connectivity for Multiple Devices
One of the standout features of the Xstream AirFiber is its ability to connect with up to 64 devices simultaneously. From smart TVs and laptops to smartphones and tablets, the device accommodates a wide range of WiFi-enabled gadgets. This feature provides flexibility and convenience, catering to the connectivity needs of diverse households.
Affordable Access and Make-in-India Initiative
To access the 5G FWA device, customers are required to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs 2,500. Also, the Xstream AirFiber devices are manufactured as part of the Make in India initiative, contributing to the nation's self-reliance in technology production.
Seamless Setup and Access
Customers can obtain the Xstream AirFiber device from Airtel stores in Delhi and Mumbai. Setting up the device is a breeze, thanks to the accompanying Xstream AirFiber app. This app offers detailed setup instructions, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free installation process. Once configured, users can connect to the internet by either scanning the QR code on the device or manually entering WiFi credentials.
Airtel's Xstream AirFiber Plans
Presently, Airtel offers a singular plan featuring a speed of 100Mbps, bundled with the Xstream AirFiber device. This plan is priced at Rs 799 per month. However, Airtel has plans to introduce additional plans in the near future, catering to varying connectivity requirements.
Cost-Effective Options
For those interested in a longer-term commitment, Airtel offers a discounted six-month plan at Rs 4,435. This option provides cost savings while ensuring uninterrupted high-speed connectivity. However, it's important to note that the availability of the monthly plan might not be immediate.
Jio AirFiber

In addition to Airtel's groundbreaking offering, Reliance Jio is also preparing to introduce its own 5G FWA device, called Jio AirFiber. The company has scheduled its 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) for August 28, during which it is expected to unveil more details about the device and potentially launch it officially.
