BSNL’s ₹399 Postpaid Plan Offers 70GB Monthly Data With Rollover, Aims to Attract Budget Users

As data prices continue to rise across private telecom networks in India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is carving out a space for itself with a straightforward strategy: affordable, feature-rich plans.

Its latest move-the ₹399 postpaid plan-targets price-sensitive users with a generous 70GB monthly data limit, unlimited calling, and one feature that sets it apart: data rollover.

A Closer Look at the ₹399 Postpaid Plan

BSNL's ₹399 plan includes 70GB of data per month, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. For users who don't exhaust their data allowance each month, the data rollover feature allows them to carry forward unused data-up to a cap of 210GB.

This feature, while not entirely new in the telecom industry, is still uncommon in this price segment, especially in the postpaid space. It adds long-term value for users who prefer a consistent monthly expense but don't always hit their data cap.

Why BSNL Is Leaning Into Postpaid

Traditionally seen as a prepaid-first brand, BSNL is now investing more in its postpaid portfolio, hoping to balance its user base and increase customer retention. While postpaid still represents a smaller portion of India's overall telecom usage, it tends to attract users with higher long-term value and lower churn.

By pricing the ₹399 plan aggressively, BSNL seems to be targeting those who are cost-conscious but still want some of the flexibility and consistency postpaid plans offer.

Competing With Private Players

BSNL's strategy comes at a time when Airtel, Jio, and Vi continue to raise tariffs or bundle OTT platforms to justify premium pricing. In contrast, BSNL is offering simpler benefits: data, voice, and value.

While BSNL doesn't match its competitors in terms of 4G or 5G coverage just yet, the company has seen an uptick in its customer base-thanks in part to these kinds of practical, budget-friendly plans.

The addition of data rollover makes the ₹399 plan more than just a flat monthly package; it introduces a level of data flexibility that many users seek but rarely find at this price point.
