BSNL Unveils ‘Q-5G’ as Its 5G Brand, Rolls Out SIM-less FWA Services for Enterprises

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially named its upcoming 5G services “Q-5G,” short for Quantum 5G, following a public poll. The announcement was made via the state-run telco’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on June 18.

In parallel, BSNL has launched a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution for enterprises in select circles under the same branding, positioning itself for a 5G future while continuing to scale its 4G footprint across the country.

BSNL Unveils Q-5G Services And Fixed Wireless Access For Enterprises

A Citizen-Curated Name for BSNL’s 5G Ambitions

The name Q-5G emerged from a public campaign where BSNL invited citizens to suggest branding ideas for its 5G rollout. The term "Quantum" was chosen to reflect high-speed connectivity, innovation, and the forward-looking vision of BSNL’s network.

In its official statement, BSNL called the naming process a shared milestone, noting that it marks more than just a service launch—it signals a step forward in public engagement and national telecom development.

Quantum 5G FWA: SIM-less Internet for Businesses

In addition to the naming reveal, BSNL inaugurated its Quantum 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service, targeted specifically at enterprises, not individual consumers. Uniquely, this FWA solution does not require a SIM card or physical wiring, relying instead on BSNL’s 5G network to deliver high-speed data.

The Q-5G FWA service starts at ₹999 per month and offers high-speed internet without voice calling. It has been introduced in selected circles, and according to BSNL, it's powered by “homegrown” technology. The company describes it as an Internet Lease Line solution tailored for business-grade connectivity.

4G Network Expansion Continues

While 5G trials get underway, BSNL’s broader push involves significant 4G expansion. As of June 2025, around 70,000 out of 1,00,000 newly installed 4G towers are already live. Union Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Chandrasekhar Pemmasani, has indicated that the Department of Telecommunications will seek Cabinet approval to install an additional 1,00,000 towers, aiming to strengthen rural and urban 4G coverage.

This 4G infrastructure is seen as the stepping stone toward a full-scale 5G rollout, particularly in underserved regions.
