Hoax SMS saying “Your Services will stop” targeting mobile users

The hoax message is spreading like a wildfire on BSNL, Airtel and Tata Docomo networks. Telecomm companies have responded by saying it’s a Spam.

With the beginning of 2018, scammers have found a new way of conning people. Mobile phone subscribers on Airtel, BSNL and Tata Docomo have received an SMS, which reads, 'Dear Customer, Voice services shall stop from 07/01/2018, to Continue to use your number you can generate UPC to port in any other Network'. The message is self explanatory and states that voice services on your number will stop coming from January 7, 2018.

Telecomm subscribers in India have reported this issue on various social platforms including twitter and Facebook. The SMS is spreading widely on Airtel, BSNL and tata Docomo network.

It is being reported that the message asks users to port their number to "any other network" by generating Unique Porting Code (UPC), however it does not mention any mention any other networks name to port. Many customers targeted by this hoax have tagged the official handles of their telecom operators on Twitters seeking clarity.

Major Telecom companies like, Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and Jio have started responding to the queries of their users. As per Gadgets 360, an Airtel representative have confirmed that is is a hoax message and users should ignore the message.
