India’s mobile phone subscriber base crosses 1 billion mark
India has been a focus of telecom companies. Indian Mobile subscriber base has touched the 1 billion mark. Given India's population, the numbers are impressive. India is another country after China to touch the 1 billion mark. The data has been released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

TRAI revealed that India has reached the 1 billion mobile subscriber mark in October. Subscriber figures reported for September was 996.7 million.However, this has soon crossed the 1 billion mark. This is attributed to the advent of low-cost handsets and mobile phones in the market which help people which is available from both national as well as international brands. This has also led to several players entering this market.
Government initiatives have ensured that phones are also locally made India. Also there has been a huge penetration of smartphones across India. The adoption rate of mobile phones - both smartphones and feature phones has been phenomenal. There is also a tough competition among telecom operators for cheaper tariffs. Another issue plaguing the telecom industry is the issue of call drops, which is an issue that is being jointly addressed by Telecom operators at the request of the government.
