The enrollment of mobile users via the conventional paper-based verification system involved a lengthy process, including filling up of customer acquisition forms (CAFs), attaching photographs, and providing proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) documents.

The shift to digital means is expected to streamline these procedures, thereby reducing the time and resources required. Furthermore, this move is a crucial part of the DoT's comprehensive strategy to prevent fraudulent activities related to mobile connections, which have been misused for cybercrime and fraud in the past.
