Jio Discontinues Its Cheapest Prepaid Plans; Base Tariff Becomes More Expensive
Reliance Jio has made a significant change to its prepaid offerings by discontinuing its most affordable recharge plans. The telco has quietly discontinued its most affordable prepaid recharge plans that offered 1GB of data per day.
With this change, the base plan now starts with 1.5GB of daily data. Users will have to opt for the next available plan priced at ₹239. So, this effectively makes the minimum recharge costlier for Jio customers.

Reliance Jio Discontinues Its Cheapest Prepaid Plans
The discontinued packs include - ₹209 (22 days) and ₹249 (28 days) – used to offer 1GB of daily data and were popular among budget users. Users must now choose the next available recharge plan priced at ₹239, which offers 1.5GB of data daily with a validity of 22 days. This shift indicates a strategic move by Reliance Jio to encourage users to spend more on their mobile data needs.
Availability and Access
An executive from the company informed NDTV Profit that these discontinued plans can still be purchased at physical retail outlets. However, online recharges for these specific plans are no longer possible.
Upon checking the official website and MyJio app at the time of writing, these recharge options were indeed unavailable. This confirms the company's decision to phase out these lower-tier plans from their digital offerings.
The telecom sector is constantly evolving, and such changes are not uncommon as companies strive to remain competitive while catering to consumer demands. Reliance Jio's latest move is a testament to this dynamic landscape where adaptability is key for both providers and consumers alike.
