Tariff Offers: TRAI Plans To Review Transparency
The telecom regulator TRAI is planning to review the transparency factor. The regular has also issued a statement, where it reveals that there should be complete information on the tariff. It includes rates and provision of services.
The regulator said that "It has been intermittently receiving a significant number of complaints from individual consumers relating to a lack of transparency in disclosure of tariff information".Besides, TRAI has asked the stakeholders that it should advise any format for tariffs.
"It has been observed that the actual tariff applicable to a customer may sometime be quite distinct from the tariff given in the tariff plan voucher," TRAI consultation paper said. On the other hand, PTI reported that TRAI is unlikely to intervene in this matter. According to the report, there are high chances that TRAI is not going to intervene in fixing any floor prices.
The report states that operators have already announced the hike in tariffs, so TRAI believes that there is no need to intervene in this matter at this point. "Any move by TRAI now may "derail" the process that has been initiated at the operators' end. The regulators consider intervention to be the last resort", sources close to the development was quoted by PTI.
Almost all telecom players have announced to increase the tariff rates by December 1. However, the telcos have not shared the exact amount of hike. Apart from that, telcos have to ensure that tariff plans on their website are updated. Ever since Reliance Jio's entered the sector, we have seen a tariff war between incumbents and Mukesh Ambani -promoted firm to retain and attract new subscribers. However, Jio has already raised tariffs and this is the second time in the same month, that it has announced a new hike.
