TRAI Revises MNP Rules: Advises 3 Working Days For Port Out Request
Telecom Regulator TRAI has finally come up with new rules for mobile number portability (MNP), which makes the whole procedure easier and faster. As per the TRAI's new regulation, the new timeline for porting out from the network is five working days, if a request is from one circle to another circle and three working days in the same circle. These new rules will be effective starting December 16.
"Individual porting request of intra-licensed service area nature will be completed in three working days; whereas the porting requests of inter-license service area nature and all porting requests under corporate category will be completed in 5 working days," TRAI said in a statement.
According to TRAI, the service of MNP will not be available from December 10 - 15, due to some changes in the existing process. But subscribers can generate a Unique Porting Code (UPC) during that time. However, all MNP requests that are submitted before 17:59:59 hours of December 9 will be completed in a given time.
"In view of the proposed migration to new process, necessary steps will be taken by the telecom service providers in creating awareness and sensitizing the mobile subscribers through their websites, call centres, point of sales and their social media platforms such as Facebook page, Twitter handle, etc. so that mobile subscribers intending to port their numbers do not face inconvenience," TRAI added.
At present, all operators take four days to port numbers in the same circle. But all porting request under corporate category take five days. For the unaware, MNP is known as a facility that enables you to change your service provider without changing your number.
Under this procedure, the recipient operator pays some amount (PPTC) to the MNP service provider for dealing with that request. In fact, TRAI has already slashed the per-port transaction charge (PPTC) to 11 percent from 19 percent, the old porting fee.
