Vi Introduces Free International Roaming in 170+ Countries: Plans, Benefits and How to Activate

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced an integrated international roaming benefit for eligible Indian subscribers, offering connectivity across more than 170 countries without requiring separate travel packs. The new feature is designed to simplify international travel while helping customers save up to Rs 9,000 annually on roaming expenses.

Vi Free International Roaming: Eligible Plans and Benefits

The new roaming benefit is available to eligible prepaid, postpaid and corporate subscribers on select plans. Postpaid customers can access the feature on plans starting at Rs 501, while eligible long-term prepaid plans are also covered. Corporate subscribers can use the benefit on business plans starting at Rs 451.

Eligible users can access the service for up to three international trips each year. The available data allowance and outgoing voice minutes will depend on the subscriber's chosen plan. Vi has positioned the offering as an alternative to purchasing separate international roaming packs or local SIM cards for short trips abroad.

The service also allows travellers to retain their Indian mobile number while overseas. This means eligible subscribers can continue receiving banking OTPs and other important security alerts on their existing number, subject to network availability and the terms of their plan.

How to Activate Vi International Roaming

Vi subscribers can activate the integrated roaming feature through the official Vi mobile application before travelling. Customers need to select the designated Roam-Free option associated with their eligible subscription.

Avneesh Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer at Vi, said the company aims to make international roaming more straightforward by integrating the benefit into select consumer and business plans.

The new offering could help reduce the need for separate roaming purchases, particularly for customers who travel internationally for short periods. However, the actual savings and available benefits will vary depending on the plan, destination and usage.

Vi's integrated international roaming service is part of its broader effort to expand its offerings for both retail and corporate customers amid competition in India's telecom market.
