Vodafone Idea (Vi) To Launch 5G Services In Delhi NCR On May 15

Vodafone Idea (Vi) is gearing up to launch its high-speed 5G services in Delhi NCR on May 15. This follows the company's earlier rollout in Mumbai in March and subsequent expansions to Chandigarh and Patna last month. Vi aims to extend its 5G services across all 17 priority circles, where it has acquired spectrum, by August 2025.

In Delhi NCR, Vi has teamed up with Ericsson to develop a robust 5G infrastructure. This partnership focuses on using lighter hardware and enhancing energy efficiency. The company is deploying a 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) architecture, which facilitates a smooth transition between 4G and 5G networks. Moreover, AI-powered Self-Organising Network (SON) technology is being implemented to optimise performance and improve user experience.

Expansion Plans for Key Markets

Bengaluru and Mysuru are next on Vi's expansion map, with rollouts already underway in these key markets. In Mumbai, the company reports that 70% of eligible users are already experiencing its 5G services. Currently, 20% of the city's data traffic is running on the new network, according to the company.

Vi's introductory offer includes unlimited 5G data for users with compatible devices. Plans start at Rs 299, making it accessible for a wide range of customers eager to experience faster internet speeds.

Future Rollout Strategy

The telecom operator's strategy involves extending its network across all priority circles by August 2025. This ambitious plan highlights Vi's commitment to providing widespread access to high-speed internet across India.

By focusing on energy-efficient infrastructure and seamless network transitions, Vi aims to deliver an enhanced user experience. The integration of AI technology further supports this goal by optimising network performance.
