Amazfit has introduced the T-Rex Dual Solar, a rugged smartwatch aimed at endurance athletes, trekkers and users who spend several days away from power outlets. The main draw is a dual-sided solar charging system, which uses both the front display area and the rear case to recover energy when exposed to sunlight.

The company is positioning it as the first AMOLED smartwatch with this kind of two-way solar charging setup. That matters because AMOLED watches usually offer brighter, richer screens, but they can also face tougher battery demands than simpler outdoor watches. Amazfit is trying to balance that trade-off with solar assistance and dedicated expedition modes.

Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar Battery and Solar Charging

The watch has a 660mAh battery and is rated for up to 25 days of typical use without solar support. Under Amazfit’s standard test condition of three hours of daily direct exposure at 50,000 lux, the front solar panel can extend typical runtime to up to 34 days.

The second solar panel sits on the glass-ceramic rear plate. Amazfit says this rear collector has twice the surface area of the front panel, making it more useful when the watch is placed flat under direct sunlight. This design is meant for off-wrist charging during breaks, at camp, or during long outdoor stops.

A Solar Priority Mode has also been added for very low-power standby. It is designed to help a depleted watch recover enough charge for essential functions such as emergency maps and route tracking. For users on long treks, this could be more useful than simply stretching normal smartwatch use by a few hours.

Built for Long Outdoor Trips

The T-Rex Dual Solar supports up to 41 hours of continuous use in high-accuracy GPS tracking mode. Amazfit has also added an Outdoor Extreme battery profile, which reduces background activity while retaining key tracking information, including periodic GPS waypoints. A dedicated Expedition activity mode is aimed at multi-day backcountry journeys.

On the hardware side, the smartwatch uses a Grade 5 titanium bezel, sapphire crystal lens and a glass-ceramic case back. It has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, which should help visibility in harsh outdoor light. The watch also carries a 10 ATM water resistance rating and is certified for recreational diving up to 50 metres.

A built-in LED flashlight is included, with white and red-light modes. The red-light option is useful for night-time outdoor use because it is less disruptive in dark conditions than a standard white beam. This feature is increasingly common on adventure watches, but remains practical for camping and trail navigation.

Maps, Route Tools and Zepp App Support

Navigation is a major part of the device’s pitch. The T-Rex Dual Solar comes with full-colour road maps, while users can download topographic contour maps and ski resort overlays. It also supports turn-by-turn guidance, route planning, advanced waypoint navigation and Points of Interest on the watch.

A Navigation Gradient Curve shows upcoming climbs, descents and grade changes using colour-coded elevation data. LiveShare can broadcast live coordinates, compass heading and performance metrics to selected contacts or support teams. Health, sleep, training load and recovery data sync through the Zepp App, with Amazfit saying no ongoing subscription is required for long-term analytics.

The Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar is priced at $649.99 and is available through Amazfit’s official online store and authorised retailers, including Amazon. India pricing and availability have not been detailed in the announcement, so buyers here may need to wait for a local launch update.
