Amazon Alexa to be inbuilt in wearable devices in 2018

Amazon Alexa is a prominent digital assistant that is seen on smart speakers. However, Alexa has not penetrated much into the wearable market segment. A handful of smartwatches have been launched with Alexa inbuilt in them but things did not change much in favor of Alexa. This situation might soon change as Amazon appears to be in plans to change it this year.

On the official Alexa blog, Amazon announced the new Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit. The objective of this Kit is to make it easier for the developers to integrate the Alexa voice assistant into their wearable devices. It is claimed that the integration will be done in an ingenious way. Instead of making the developers load Alexa directly to their gadgets, this Kit lets wearable tech to connect seamlessly to Alexa Voice Service on the Amazon Alexa app available for both Android and iOS devices.

Voice commands that are issued to the wearable devices will be sent to the smartphone and the response from Alexa will be obtained. This will then by relayed through the wearable devices such as smartwatches, headphones, etc. The process requires the smartphone and wearable devices to be connected for Alexa to work seamlessly but it makes adding AI to the devices pretty easier.

The Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit will not see the light of the day until the end of this year. But it looks like Amazon is already in works with the wearable device manufacturers such as Jabra, Beyerdynamic, Bose and iHome so that they can release future products with this technology. Eventually, it might not take a long time for us to see witnessing the launch of fitness trackers, smartwatches and headphones powered by the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

Earlier this week, we came across a report suggesting that the Amazon Alexa assistant has gone to the next level as it will help users in the kitchen by controlling the microwave ovens during cooking. The Alexa Smart Home Skill API is getting support for cooking features. So, you can just voice out saying "Alexa, microwave for 50 seconds on high" and the task will be executed.
