Apple Vision Pro Set to Include Zoom, Disney+, Prime Video, and More Third-Party Apps at Launch

With the upcoming launch of Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality headset on February 2, 2024, anticipation is building as developers prepare their apps for the unique capabilities of this spatial computing device.

As the tech giant enters a new hardware category after nearly a decade, let's delve into the current app landscape and developer readiness for the Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro Set to Include Zoom, Disney+, & More Apps at Launch

Major Streaming Apps Opt Out

While Apple's Vision Pro claims to cater to productivity, entertainment, and gaming needs, major streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify have chosen not to create dedicated apps for the new platform. Users can still access these services via Safari on the device, maintaining access to their favorite content.

Apple assures users that a variety of streaming and entertainment apps will be available on visionOS at launch, including Disney+, ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and Mubi.

Developers Rally for visionOS Support

Developers are actively preparing for the Vision Pro launch, with around 250 apps already submitted to Apple for native support on visionOS. Notable third-party apps like Airmail, Box, Carrot Weather, Fantastical, Facades, JigSpace, Mubi, Night Sky, OmniPlan 4, Parcel, PCalc, Red Bull TV, Sky Guide, Tides, Webex, Zoom, and others will offer users immersive experiences on the mixed reality headset.

Microsoft Suite and Popular Apps on Board

Microsoft's suite of apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, will run natively on visionOS, enhancing the device's productivity capabilities. Additional supported apps include Crunchyroll, J.Crew, LEGO Builder's Journey, Lowe's, and more. Moreover, iPhone and iPad apps will automatically be available on the Vision Pro, unless developers choose to opt-out.

Entertainment Enhancements and Disney+ Integration

Disney+ will natively support the Vision Pro, offering users a selection of 3D movies, such as Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Elemental, and Encanto. Users can transform their space into various Disney+ environments, adding an extra layer of immersion to their viewing experience.

The Road Ahead

With around two weeks until the Vision Pro launch, developers still have time to refine and submit their apps. The flexibility of the App Store Connect tool allows iPhone and iPad apps to seamlessly become available on the Vision Pro, potentially expanding the available app pool to over one million at launch.
