Google Fitbit Edge with AMOLED Display Could Launch Soon to Take on Smartwatches: What to Expect

Google may be preparing a more practical Fitbit wearable for users who want a screen, notifications and core fitness tracking without moving to a full smartwatch. The rumoured Fitbit Edge is expected to sit above the screenless Fitbit Air and below Google’s premium smartwatch range, giving the company another option in India’s crowded fitness wearable market.

The device has not been announced officially, so its final name, features and pricing remain unconfirmed. However, leaked product details suggest Google is looking at an oval AMOLED display, built-in health sensors and a price band that could make the Fitbit Edge a direct rival to mid-range smartwatches from Amazfit, Samsung, Noise and other brands.

Google Fitbit Edge with AMOLED Display Could Launch Soon

Fitbit Edge Could Bring a Display Back

The biggest expected change is the display. The Fitbit Edge is tipped to feature an oval AMOLED screen, which would allow users to view app alerts, incoming call notifications, workout data and basic controls directly on the wrist. That would make it far more useful for buyers who found the Fitbit Air too minimal because of its screenless design.

The wearable is also expected to offer media controls, YouTube Music support, Google Maps access and a Find My Phone feature. These additions would move it closer to a smartwatch-style experience, though it may still remain focused on health and fitness rather than third-party app depth.

GPS and Bluetooth connectivity are also part of the leaked feature list. GPS support will be important for runners, cyclists and walkers who want route and distance tracking. Battery life is tipped to be up to seven days, but real-world usage will likely vary depending on screen brightness, GPS use and health tracking settings.

Health Features May Include Heart Rate, SpO2 and Skin Temperature

On the health side, the Fitbit Edge is expected to include 24/7 heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking and skin-temperature measurements. These are now common in mid-range wearables, but Fitbit’s strength has traditionally been in its health dashboard, sleep insights and longer-term fitness trends.

The device is also said to work with Google Health Premium. What remains unclear is whether Google will bundle any subscription period with the wearable in India. That detail will matter, as several advanced Fitbit insights have historically depended on paid membership plans in some markets.

The expected feature mix suggests Google may be trying to fill a gap between basic trackers and full-featured smartwatches. Many users want better health tracking and reliable battery life, but do not always need LTE, large app stores or heavy smartwatch functions. The Fitbit Edge could target that middle ground.

Fitbit Edge Price in India and Launch Timeline

Leaks currently point to a global price range of $149 to $199. In India, that could translate to around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, depending on taxes, launch offers and currency conversion. That price would place it above budget fitness bands and close to several capable smartwatches.

The Fitbit Edge is reportedly expected by the end of October, possibly ahead of Diwali. Google has not confirmed the launch date, specifications or India availability yet. Until an official announcement arrives, buyers should treat all details as early leaks rather than final product information.

If the reported pricing holds, the Fitbit Edge will need to justify itself through accurate tracking, dependable software and battery life. India already has many cheaper wearables with AMOLED screens and health sensors, so Google’s advantage may depend on Fitbit’s data quality, app experience and integration with Google services.
