Google Revamps Fitbit App with Gemini AI Health Coach App For Premium Users In The US
Google is set to release a public preview of Fitbit's Gemini AI-powered Health Coach app. This rollout will begin on Tuesday, targeting users in the US who are subscribed to Fitbit Premium. The app aims to provide optimised fitness goals and functionalities by gathering detailed user information at the start. Currently, only paid and trial subscribers can access this preview.
The tech giant has outlined that the initial availability is for Android users with Fitbit Premium subscriptions in the US. An iOS version is expected later. The app introduces an "Ask Coach" feature, enabling users to interact with an AI chatbot for personalised health advice.

Eligibility and Device Compatibility
To access this preview, users must have a paid or trial Fitbit Premium subscription. Their devices should run Fitbit app version 4.55 or higher on Android 11 or newer, with English as the language setting. Eligible wearables include models like Fitbit Inspire 2, Luxe, Sense, Versa 3, and Charge 5.
Google first introduced the Gemini AI-enabled Health Coach in August. It will eventually be available on select Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices. The full version promises features like a fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor, adapting based on real-time metrics from wearables.
Features and Limitations
The preview begins with a five to ten-minute conversation via text or microphone to understand user motivations and goals better. Google advises sharing ample personal information for enhanced personalisation of fitness plans.

However, some features won't be available in this public preview phase. Missing elements include menstrual health tracking, nutrition logging, blood glucose monitoring, body temperature tracking, and stress management scores.
Future Plans for Full Version Release
Although no exact date is set for the full rollout of the app, reports suggest it will be available in 2026. Additionally, new Fitbit devices are anticipated next year to complement this release.
Exercise tracking features such as heart rate zone analysis during workouts and advanced running metrics for Pixel Watch users are also excluded from this preview phase.
The Gemini AI-powered Health Coach aims to offer comprehensive health insights by analysing data from wearables. It will curate personalised goals based on these metrics once fully launched. This initiative aligns with Google's broader strategy of integrating AI into health technology to enhance user experience through tailored fitness solutions.
