Googles Gemini App Breaks New Ground with Global Launch and Headphones Support
Google's Gemini app, initially launched on February 8 for Android smartphones in the US, is set to broaden its horizon on multiple fronts. The artificial intelligence (AI)-powered assistant, known for its generative AI capabilities, is not only extending its availability to regions across the globe but is also eyeing an expansion to new devices, including headphones.
Broader Regional Availability
Jack Krawczyk, Senior Director of Product at Google, announced that the Gemini app would soon be available in additional regions, including the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America, and Africa. This expansion is expected to roll out this week, with a specific mention of the app launching in India on February 12, although it was not available in the Play Store at the time of publishing. This move marks a significant step in making advanced AI tools more accessible to a global audience.

Extending Compatibility to Headphones
Currently, even when the Gemini app is set as the default assistant on a phone, activating it via a headset or earphones triggers the Google Assistant due to compatibility issues. However, a report by 9to5Google suggests that this might soon change. The report unveils a string of code in the latest Google app beta version that hints at the expansion of Gemini's availability to headphones - devices referred to as 'bisto' by Google. This development could potentially enrich the user's experience by integrating Gemini's AI capabilities in an audio-only medium.
Future Developments and Features
With the app's expansion to headphones, it is anticipated that Google might introduce new features tailored for an audio-centric interface, such as shorter responses and cadence customization. These adjustments would help the AI adapt more effectively to the medium. Moreover, Google is reportedly working on an iOS version of the Gemini app. Although no specific release date has been mentioned, this development signifies Google's commitment to making its AI assistant accessible to a wider user base, regardless of the operating system.
