Inside Apple's Vision Pro: iFixit Reveals Key Components and Surprising Findings
iFixit has unveiled Part 2 of its Apple Vision Pro teardown, providing insight into the inner workings of Apple's groundbreaking Spatial Computer. The teardown sheds light on key components and unveils surprising revelations, challenging some of Apple's marketing claims.
Vision Pro Display Analysis
Despite Apple's assertion of delivering "more than a 4K TV for each eye," iFixit's investigation reveals that the micro OLED screens fall short of true 4K resolution. Each screen boasts an estimated resolution of 3,660 x 3,200 pixels per eye, slightly below the 3,840 x 2,160 pixels required for 4K.

However, with an impressive pixel density of 3,380 pixels per inch (PPI), the Vision Pro display remains exceptionally sharp.
Pixel Per Degree (PPD) Comparison
In evaluating VR headset performance, PPD emerges as a critical metric. iFixit's analysis indicates that the Vision Pro offers 34 PPD, surpassing competitors like the Meta Quest 3 with its 25 PPD. This translates to a notably more detailed viewing experience for Vision Pro users.
Insights into Vision Pro's Battery Pack
The teardown also delves into Vision Pro's battery pack, revealing a robust construction featuring a single sheet of aluminum. Despite its durability, accessing the battery proved challenging, requiring unconventional methods like the use of a hammer and chisel. Inside, iFixit discovered three iPhone-sized batteries, collectively boasting 46.08Wh of power, surpassing Apple's official rating of 35.9Wh.
Surprising Omission and Repairability Score
Contrary to Apple's usual practice of parts pairing, iFixit's examination suggests that Vision Pro components are interchangeable. However, repairability remains a significant challenge, earning Vision Pro a modest 4/10 score on the iFixit repairability scale.
Vision Pro's Software Update
In addition to hardware insights, Vision Pro received its inaugural software update, introducing enhanced and more realistic Personas avatars. The release of Apple visionOS 1.1 Beta brings improvements to user experience, albeit requiring users to undergo facial rescanning and avatar creation.
