Meta Quest 3 Revealed: Shipping This Fall for $499.99
Virtual reality enthusiasts and gamers alike have been eagerly anticipating the next generation of headsets, and Meta has answered their call with the official announcement of the Quest 3 virtual reality and mixed reality headset.
Meta's Announcement of the Quest 3 Headset
Unlike the recently launched Meta Quest Pro, the Quest 3 is the highly anticipated successor to the Quest 2, which was launched in 2020 and gained widespread popularity for its wireless and standalone capabilities. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Quest 3 aims to deliver an even more immersive and visually stunning virtual reality experience.

Meta has remained tight-lipped about the exact technical specifications of the headset, but they have promised significant improvements in terms of resolution, performance, and design.
The company plans to provide more details about the headset during Meta Connect, an event scheduled for September 27. This event will serve as an opportunity for Meta to showcase the advancements and innovations that Quest 3 brings to the table.
Key Features of the Meta Quest 3
Wireless and Standalone Design
Similar to its predecessor, the Quest 3 will be a wireless headset, offering users the freedom to move and explore virtual worlds without being tethered to a high-performance PC. This feature allows for a more immersive and untethered virtual reality experience, making the Quest 3 a versatile device for both gaming and other applications.
Compatibility with Quest 2 Catalog
One of the major advantages of the Quest 3 is its compatibility with the entire Quest 2 catalog. This means that users will have access to a wide range of games and experiences from the moment they start using the new headset. It ensures a smooth transition for existing Quest 2 users and provides an extensive library of content for newcomers to explore.
Enhanced Graphics and Resolution
Meta has promised a significant boost in graphical performance for the Quest 3. With twice the graphical power compared to its predecessor, users can expect more detailed and realistic visuals in their virtual reality experiences. Additionally, the Quest 3 will feature improved resolution displays, allowing for sharper and more vibrant images.
Meta Reality Technology
The Quest 3 will incorporate Meta Reality technology, which aims to enhance the overall virtual reality experience. Although specific details about this technology have not been revealed, users can anticipate a more immersive and captivating environment that blurs the line between the virtual and real worlds.
Redesigned Touch Plus Controllers
Meta has redesigned the Touch Plus controllers for the Quest 3, aiming to provide users with a streamlined and comfortable experience. These controllers play a crucial role in interacting with virtual environments, and Meta's focus on improving their design indicates a commitment to delivering an intuitive and immersive user experience.
Meta Quest 3 & Quest 2: Release Date and Pricing
In addition to the Quest 3 retailing for $499.99 for the 128GB model, Meta will continue to sell the Quest 2, but at a reduced starting price of $299.99 for the 128 GB model and $349.99 for the 256 GB model, starting from June 4.
It's quite amusing how Meta's launch timing is awfully close to Apple's WWDC keynote, where Apple is expected to introduce its highly anticipated Reality Pro headset.
