What If Your Glasses Could Read Your Mind? Zuckerberg's Meta Says It's Possible With Orion AR Glasses
At Meta Connect 2024, Meta made a bold move toward the future of augmented reality (AR) with the introduction of its Orion AR glasses. These groundbreaking glasses aim to merge the digital and physical worlds like never before.
Orion AR Glasses: Augmented Reality with Real-World Integration
The Orion AR glasses stand out for their ability to blend digital content seamlessly into the user's physical environment. Powered by silicon-carbide architecture, Orion projects holographic visuals that interact with the real world, from multitasking windows and life-size holograms to immersive video calls.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, these glasses will allow users to manage digital tasks hands-free, using AI voice assistance and a neural wristband for brain-signal-based control.
Unlike other AR devices, Orion features fully transparent lenses, giving them the appearance of regular glasses. This design lets users maintain natural eye contact while navigating augmented reality, enhancing both social and professional interactions.
Hands-Free Control and AI Assistance
A key feature of the Orion glasses is their integration with Meta AI. The glasses can recognize objects and deliver real-time information or suggestions based on what you're looking at. Imagine opening your fridge and instantly receiving recipe suggestions or video chatting while adjusting a digital calendar-all without reaching for your phone. With Orion, everyday tasks become streamlined through a mix of visual AR elements and AI-powered assistance.

The Orion system also includes a "neural wristband" for controlling functions through subtle hand movements, and a wireless block that allows for full functionality within a 12-foot range.
The Road Ahead
While the Orion AR glasses are a significant leap in wearable tech, Meta plans to bring them to consumers by 2027. The prototype showcased at Meta Connect 2024 impressed, but the challenge remains to make these glasses a seamless part of daily life. With continued development, Meta aims to turn this futuristic vision into reality.
Meta Makes Mixed Reality More Accessible with Quest 3S
In addition to Orion, Meta introduced the Quest 3S, an affordable mixed-reality headset powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 2 chipset. Priced at $299.99 for the 128GB version and $399.99 for the 256GB model, the Quest 3S offers double the graphical performance of its predecessors and a slimmer design.
Moreover, the price of the more powerful Quest 3, released last year, has been reduced from $649.99 to $499.99.
