Amazfit Bip 5 Unity Review: An Ideal Everyday Fitness Companion !

Amazfit recently unveiled the Bip 5 Unity smartwatch watch in India. The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity is advertised as an 'Essential Everyday Smartwatch' by packing a ton of features at a somewhat reasonable price.

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity price in India is set at Rs 6,999. But is it worth that price and can you really call it an 'Essential Everyday Smartwatch'? Let's find out!

Design and Build

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity features a rectangular dial, similar to the Apple Watch. The Bip 5 Unity boasts a unibody design, using a combination of plastic and stainless steel, giving the watch a more premium feel. The smartwatch has a large 2.5D curved panel and a sleek design. The smartwatch is offered in Grey, Charcoal, and Pink color options.

The watch is quite comfortable to use thanks to its lightweight design, weighing 24 grams without the strap and only 10mm thick. The comfortable design and sturdy stainless-steel build make the watch ideal for daily use as I rarely noticed its weight on my wrist.

Display

For the screen, Amazfit opts for a 1.91-inch TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 320x380 pixels. Additionally, the screen also features a 260 PPI pixel density, allowing you to clearly check data or view notifications on the watch.

The TFT panel used is not quite as sharp as an OLED display, although it does make it easier to use the watch under direct sunlight. The 2.5D tempered glass offers a layer of protection over the screen, while the anti-fingerprint coating keeps the display clear of smudges.

Features

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity comes with over 120 sports modes, including walking, running, rowing machine, football, and more. Additionally, the watch offers Auto-Detection for six sports, which worked well while walking and jogging. Unfortunately, there's no in-built GPS and I had to pair the watch with my phone while cycling.

The Bip 5 Unity's results when counting 300 steps were not too far off from my Fitbit Versa 4. Moreover, activity tracking gives you a ton of useful information, breaking down the workout and giving you a score for the entire session. It also tracks your average heart rate and highest heart rate during the workout.

Amazfit's fitness watch is also equipped with the company's BioTracker PPG biometric sensor, which monitors blood oxygen levels, stress levels, low oxygen levels, heart rate, sleep quality, and menstrual cycling tracking. The smartwatch also features Smart Health Alerts, which alert you to abnormally high or low heart rates, low SpO2 levels, and high stress levels.

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity watch also supports Bluetooth calling with a built-in speaker and microphone, although it isn't very effective outdoors. Another solid addition to the Bip 5 Unity is Alexa support, allowing you to operate your watch with your voice. The watch also has a music player to control playback on your wrist.

Software

The Amazfit Bip 5 runs on Zepp OS 3.0, which gives you access to over 70 apps and games. You can access these by downloading the Zepp app on a compatible Android or iOS phone. Once downloaded, follow the steps to simply pair the watch and unleash the full potential of the watch.

There are over 100 watch faces to choose from, while Amazfit also provides the option to customize the watch face with your own photo. Additionally, over 30 watch faces offer some level of customization. You can also link third-party accounts, like Google Fit, Adidas Running, Strava, etc. to the Bip 5 Unity using the app.

The Zepp app displays detailed information about your workouts and sleep data. You can set alarms, manage notifications and calls, and set goals on the app. The Zepp Coach also offers customized workout plans based on your requirements. The Zepp app is an integral part of the overall experience and is an excellent companion app for a budget smartwatch.

Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, the Bip 5 Unity delivers nearly five days of usage if you are continuously using the watch thanks to its 300 mAh battery. However, I only used the watch to sleep and for two hours of activity daily, giving me well above the five days, going up to a week.

Amazfit also claims the watch features 26 days of battery life in the Battery Saver mode. Standby battery life of the Bip 5 Unity was above average as well. There's a 2-pin connector which charges the watch over a USB Type-A, which felt rather slow coming from the OnePlus Watch (Review).

Verdict

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity offers a budget path to a more active life. The smartwatch offers a plethora of health and fitness tracking features, while delivering excellent battery life. Additionally, the watch also tracked data accurately, while presenting it in a simple, understandable manner through the companion app.

Moreover, the Bip 5 Unity sports a tough build and was quite comfortable to use working out or while tracking sleep. Another great addition to the Bip 5 Unity is the in-house App Store, which provides access to games, fitness apps, and more. Overall, the Amazfit Bip 5 Unity makes for an excellent everyday fitness companion. However, the smartwatch isn't without its downsides.

For one, there's no built-in GPS and the TFT LCD display can be a pain to use in the dark. The Bip 5 Unity's design is quite uninspiring as well. So should you buy the Amazfit Bip 5 Unity? If you are looking for a comfortable smartwatch to help you lead a more active lifestyle without breaking the bank, then the Bip 5 Unity is an excellent option, despite its caveats.
