Huami Amazfit GTR 47.2mm Review: An Elegant Smartwatch

We received the unit to test and bring you a comprehensive review of the device.

Impressive Design And Responsive Touch Display

Impressive Design And Responsive Touch Display

The look and feel of the Amazfit GTR is premium, it comes with a 47.2 mm circular dial along with a leather strap. On the right side, it sports two functional buttons which will allow you to power on/off the device and monitor your heart rate with one click.

The chrome finish of the circular dial gives it a premium look, the build quality of the watch is also very reliable and it comes with easily removable strap pins which will allow you to attach and detach straps at any time. The strap size is regular which will give you an upper hand to fit any strap on the smartwatch.

Although it looks like a traditional watch, it's actually not. The overall design of the smartwatch is impressive and we think at this price range the company is offering a good design.

Coming to the display, the Amazfit GTE offers a 1.39-inch color AMOLED display which is protected by Corning Gorilla 2 tempered glass. The screen also carries oleophobic coating which is also known as an anti-fingerprint coating. This improves the visibility of the device and makes the screen less prone to fingerprints.

We noticed that the colors on the display are bright and visible in all the lighting conditions. On the home screen, you can monitor the date, time, battery status, footsteps, calorie burn, the total number of kilometers you have walked, and the last measured heart rate.

Meanwhile, you can also change the watch face by just pressing and holding the home screen and it will bring up the list of faces from which you can choose. However, do note that there is only room for three watch faces on the watch out of which two are the default. So you have only one empty face space which you can use to shuffle the watch faces.

The overall experience of the design and display quality of the Amazfit GTR is very impressive and the touch response of the screen was also very splendid during our use. The most important part of our test was that we haven't used any screen protector during our use, and we must say that we haven't see any scratch on the watch which means that the display is durable enough.

Setting Up With Smartphone

Setting Up With Smartphone

If you have ever used any other smartwatch or smart band then it will be a piece of cake to set up the device. All you need to do is to download the Amazfit app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. After installation, you have to fire the app and agree on the terms and conditions and select the Amazfit GTR model which you are using.

Also, don't forget to turn on the Bluetooth on your smartphone which will bridge the connection between the smartwatch and phone. It might take some time but once the Amazfit GTR is synced with your phone, you are all set to go. After the pairing process, you can select the watch faces, set alarms, and receive notifications directly from your phone to the watch display.

Amazfit Amazing Performance

Amazfit Amazing Performance

The Amazfit GTR comes with features like BioTracker PPG optical heart rate sensor, 6-axis acceleration sensor, 3-axis Geomagnetic sensor, Pressure sensor, Ambient Light sensor, app notifications, incoming calls, and lot more. It also comes with 5 ATM water resistance up to 50 meters. It also comes with multiple swimming scenario support, it is capable of recognizing swing positions and monitor data like SWOLF, pace, or calorie consumption.

Besides, the fitness tracker also comes with 12 different sports mode which includes modes like cycling, mountaineering, trail running, running, and workout. You can select the modes from the activities section and it is capable of monitoring distance, bpm range, laps, time per laps, pace, and lot more. At the end of every activity, users have to stop the watch mode which will give all the detailed information about the sports activities they were performing.

We have used the device for more than four weeks during workout and cycling and we have got some good results. The device is capable of delivering data about calories burned, workout duration, distance travel and more.

During our use, we haven't found any issue with the device, the Amazfit GTR performances well without any difficulty. Moreover, it also comes equipped with GPS +GLONASS which ensure accurate route tracking. This feature can help you when you go for a long run.

Battery Performance

Battery Performance

The Amazfit GTR promises a battery life of 24-days under typical usage conditions. During our use, we got a battery life of three weeks on a single charge with heart rate monitor always-on, sleep monitoring on, workout of two hours in a day. However, we have not turned on all app notifications and always screen on feature which might have saved a lot of battery.

The battery performance of the smartwatch left us astonished because we were not expecting a battery life of 21 days with such a big touch screen. The overall performance of the battery was out-standing and we must say that the company has done a great job in terms of managing power consumption.

Software

Software

The user interface of the device is pretty similar to the Galaxy Watch, however, both the smartwatches work differently. If you are using a smartwatch for the first time then we can say that you won't face any difficulty while using it because of the user-friendly UI.

On the watch screen users will get features like status, PAI, workout, heart rate, activities, weather, music, notifications, alarm, event reminder, more, and settings.

The gestures to operate the Amazfit GTR are also very simple. You just have to swipe up from the bottom to enter the menu section. Swiping down will bring the notification bar down which will allow you to turn on the screen torch, brightness status bar, DND mode, power-saving mode, and screen lock. Besides, users will also get a vibration alert when a notification or alert hits the smartwatch. This makes sure that the user is attending the alert and notification.

We haven't found any difficulty in handling the Amazfit GTR smartwatch in terms of UI and software. The interface of the smartphone app is very user-friendly and easy to use.
