Reliance Jio Officially Launched: Tariff Plans Starts From Rs. 149, Provides Data at Rs. 50/GB
As we reported yesterday, Reliance Jio has been officially announced by Mukesh Ambani at the company's AGM meeting today.
The announcement came as expected, however, we also covered the leaked tariff packs of the service, but that leak was not par with the packs revealed by Ambani today. However, they are still much more competitive than other telecom networks.

Ambani also made some major announcements regarding the service which include the premium Jio apps free till December which costs you as much as Rs. 15,000. Take a look at the sliders below for all the announcements made at the event today.

5 Paise Per MB
This is one of the major announcement regarding the service. Ambani said that the network will cost as low as 5 paise per MB which dubs to Rs. 50 for a GB of data. That's insane, right?
Pay Only for Voice or Data
He also said that- Jio users will need to opt for either calls or data, but not both. Because the company is offering voice calls for free.
No Roaming Charges
This has to be done by someone and Reliance steps with this service. The Mukesh Ambani-led company announced that the telecom service won't charge for roaming charges and he said as follows: "Put an end to all voice call charges for all voice calls that are domestic"
Tariff Plans Ranging from Rs. 149 to Rs. 4,999
As said earlier, the official tariff plans are not the same as the leaked plans, but they are cheap and very much better than other telecom networks.
Each tariff plan comes bundled with all the Jio apps service for free,which is also a welcome initiative from the company.
Tariff Plans in Detail
Let's have a look at the official tariff plans in detail. The basic pack will be the Rs.149 one, which offers free voice calls, 0.3 GB of 4G data, unlimited access to all Jio apps, and 100 SMS for 28 days.
The Rs. 499 pack offers 4GB of data and unlimited 4G night data, voice calls, SMS messages, and Jio apps for 28 days. All the other packs are similar but comes with more data.
Over 18,000 Cities and 2 lakh Villages Under Jio Network
The Reliance Jio's 4G network will cover more than 18,000 cities and 2 lakh villages all over the country. And, Ambani says that the company is planning to cover 90 percent of the population by 2017.
Special Student Offer
Also, the telecom company is planning a new scheme especially for students where they will be offered 25 percent more data than others.
Instant e-KYC Activation
Customers can now activate theirs within 15 minutes. Following the footprints of Aitel and Vodafone, Reliance will also start the e-KYC activation with which the SIM can be activated in 15 minutes.
Users who have an Aadhar card will need to carry their original copy of the Aadhar card to the nearest Reliance Digital Store. The Jio SIM card will be activated within 15 minutes once you show the store authorities your Jio SIM Card.
Future Ready!
Mukesh Ambani Said "It is future-ready and it can be easily upgraded to support even more data, as technologies advance to 5G, 6G and beyond,".
Starting With Mumbai and Delhi
The service will be available in only two cities, as of now and that too from September 5. Later on, maybe after six weeks or so, Reliance Jio will be available for other states as well, quoted Ambani.
