AirTags 2: Coming Soon? Not Quite
Apple's AirTags have quietly become one of the company's most popular offerings since their introduction over two years ago. With more than 55 million AirTags sold and over a billion dollars in revenue generated within the first 18 months of their release, these small tracking devices have captured the attention of consumers worldwide. If you're holding out for the next generation of AirTags, you could be in for a lengthy wait. According to a post by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on X, formerly known as Twitter, the next version of AirTags is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Looking Forward to AirTag 2
As Apple typically follows a numerical naming convention for their product generations, it is no surprise that enthusiasts are already anticipating the arrival of AirTag 2.

Analyst Predictions
According to respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the production of AirTag 2 is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. He did not specify whether the start of mass production indicates that the trackers will be available during that period or if it's simply Apple's preparation to increase supply before the official launch. However, Kuo mentioned that the tracker could be linked to Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset. He believes that Apple intends to build a new ecosystem centered around spatial computing, where Vision Pro will serve as the core, integrating various devices, including AirTag 2.
Unveiling the Features
Despite Kuo's valuable insights, specific features of AirTag 2 have not been disclosed yet. It is worth noting, however, that Apple has taken steps to address privacy concerns regarding the misuse of AirTags for stalking. Measures have been implemented to notify users when an AirTag that doesn't belong to them is detected nearby. Furthermore, Apple is collaborating with Google to combat stalking issues that might arise from Bluetooth trackers.
