Did Xiaomi Blatantly Copy Apple Watch’s Design For Its Mi Watch?
Xiaomi is all set to launch its first smartwatch -- the Mi Watch on November 5. From the leaked images and teasers it is confirmed that the Mi Watch looks a lot like the Apple Watch and here is our take on the same.
This is not the first time where a Xiaomi product has drawn inspiration from an Apple product? Do names like Mi Book, Mi Book Air, and the Mi Book Pro ring a bell? Even the entire set of laptops from Xiaomi closely resembles the MacBook series from Apple with a minimalistic design.
It Looks A Lot Like The Apple Watch
Apple is the number one premium smartwatch maker in the world and over the years the company has introduced a lot of new features like ECG measure, fall detection, and more. Considering the leaks and speculations the Mi Watch looks almost identical to the Apple watch with a circular crown and a multi-function button.
Externally the Mi Watch looks like an Apple Watch and the same cannot be said about the software experience. As the company has already confirmed that the Mi Watch will be based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset and the software will be based on Google's WearOS.
Like most of the smartwatches based on Android WearOS, the Mi Watch should work with both Android and iOS devices. However, this is not the case with the Apple Watch as it is only compatible with iPhones.
Should Apple Worry About It?
Though the Mi Watch looks a lot like the Apple Watch, the company needs not to worry as the Mi Watch is expected to be a budget offering. Besides, the Mi Watch might not offer the sort of premium feel that an Apple Watch offers.
The Xiaomi Mi Watch is all set to launch in China in the next week and the same might be made available in India by the end of 2019 or in early 2020 and is expected to be priced around 999 Yuan or (approx Rs. 10,000).
