Xiaomi Plans to Make Wireless Audio Products in India

Xiaomi, one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in India, is set to expand its production capabilities by venturing into the manufacturing of wireless audio products. With its extensive presence in the country, Xiaomi aims to strengthen its commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative by partnering with local electronics manufacturer Optiemus.

Xiaomi's Commitment to Local Manufacturing

In a recent statement to Reuters, Xiaomi revealed its plans to enter the audio product market by manufacturing its first locally-produced audio gadget in partnership with Optiemus Electronics, based in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. This move highlights Xiaomi's dedication to promoting domestic manufacturing and sourcing components locally.

As part of its long-term strategy, Xiaomi has expressed its commitment to increasing the production of locally sourced components by 50% by 2025.

Expansion into Audio Products

Although Xiaomi has not disclosed the specific type of audio product it will manufacture in the Indian factory, the company has affirmed its determination to collaborate with partners for a broader range of product categories.

By diversifying its offerings beyond smartphones, Xiaomi aims to cater to the evolving needs of its customer base and expand its market presence. This strategic move showcases Xiaomi's ambition to be a comprehensive technology brand in India.

Apple's Similar Strategy

Xiaomi is not the only tech giant eyeing India's manufacturing potential. Earlier this year, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce, revealed that Apple aims to manufacture 25 percent of its iPhones in India.

Apple is already producing around 5 to 7 percent of its total volumes in the country, a number that aligns with the predictions made by JP Morgan analysts. This surge in local production is expected to continue as Apple seeks to leverage India's skilled workforce and cater to the growing demand for iPhones.
