Microsoft to Integrate ChatGPT-Like AI in Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Microsoft to Integrate ChatGPT-Like AI in Word

Microsoft has been investing heavily in OpenAI's ChatGPT, with plans to invest an eye-watering $10 billion in the firm. Last week, the software giant announced its new AI-powered Bing search engine. Now Microsoft intends to extend the ChatGPT model to core Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

ChatGPT-Like Integration for Microsoft Apps in the Works

According to a report by The Verge, Microsoft is gearing up to demo the integration of OpenAI's language AI tech and the Prometheus Model in a few weeks. The report adds that Microsoft is planning to announce in March. Rumors claim that the firm is trying to release the demo as early as possible to stay ahead of the competition.

Microsoft reportedly planned to unveil its AI-based Bing search engine at the end of February. However, the firm decided to push the date last week since Google also planned its announcement around the same time. Microsoft's AI-powered Bing, unveiled a day after Google debuted Bard, is touted as a ChatGPT competitor.

Microsoft has been testing GPT models in Outlook to help compose email replies and enhance search results. Moreover, the company is developing AI integration with Word documents to help users improve their writing. The firm is also reportedly working on creating graphics and graphs for PowerPoint, which will come in handy for presentations.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has started utilizing its new Prometheus Model, based on the latest OpenAI model, in its search engine, Bing. The software giant plans to implement this feature for certain Microsoft Office apps to test the AI model.

The AI Competition Heats Up

ChatGPT reportedly logged 100 million active users per month just a few months after it debuted. Following the announcement of AI-powered Bing, over 1 million people reportedly signed up for the waitlist in two days. Emboldened by the enthusiastic response, Microsoft execs believe that the company is ahead of its competition. However, the report adds, the firm remains wary of rivals such as Google.

Meanwhile, Google's Bard has arrived on the AI scene, poised to offer stiff competition to ChatGPT. Bard is an AI chatbot powered by LaMDA, trained to offer "fresh, high-quality responses" by drawing from the web without restrictions on its training data.
