OpenAI’s New GPT-4o Mini AI Model Is Now Live: What You Need to Know
OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o mini, a smaller, more affordable version of its powerful AI model GPT-4o. This new model aims to make advanced artificial intelligence accessible to a wider range of developers and users by significantly reducing costs.
Cost-Effective Powerhouse
Priced at just 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens, GPT-4o mini is considerably cheaper than previous models like GPT-3.5 Turbo. This makes it a cost-effective solution for various applications, including:

- Large context tasks: GPT-4o mini can handle situations requiring extensive context, such as processing customer support chat history or analyzing full codebases.
- Real-time interactions: The model's fast response times make it ideal for real-time text-based interacions, like chatbots or virtual assistants.
- Multi-model workflows: Developers can integrate GPT-4o mini into workflows involving multiple AI models for complex tasks.
Impressive Performance
Despite its affordability, GPT-4o mini boasts impressive performance. It outperforms other small models in reasoning, math, and coding tasks, achieving 87% and 87.2% on benchmarks like MGSM and HumanEval, respectively.
Safety First
OpenAI prioritizes safety with GPT-4o mini. The model incorporates safeguards like pre-training on filtered content and reinforcement learning with human feedback to ensure its alignment with safety guidelines. Additionally, over 70 external experts have evaluated the model to identify and mitigate potential risks.
Availability
GPT-4o mini is now available through OpenAI's APIs, including the Assistants API, Chat Completions API, and Batch API. Free, Plus, and Team users on ChatGPT can access it starting now, with enterprise users gaining access next week. OpenAI also plans to introduce fine-tuning capabilities for further customization.
I checked ChatGPT and can confirm that GPT-4o Mini is now available for use.
