What are Read Receipts?

Read receipts are nothing but the blue ticks that appear once your recipients have read your message on WhatsApp. If you turn off the read receipts, the senders will not get to know when you have read or seen their messages. However, the catch is that you will also not get to know when others have read your messages as well.

Disable Read Receipts

Any WhatsApp user who doesn't want to reveal his or her privacy can turn off the read receipts in a few taps. Well, just open WhatsApp and go to Settings → Account → Privacy. Over there, you will get an option called Read Receipts. You just have to turn it off.

Just tweak a setting on WhatsApp

Well, you can get the read receipts even if your senders have turned off the feature. This is possible by tweaking one of the features of the Read Receipts.

Read receipts are sent in group chats

Even if the Read Receipts are disabled, the same is always enabled in the group chats. Even if you turn off the same, you will get the receipts for the messages that you receive in group chats. Eventually, the sender of a message in groups will get the read timestamp whenever you read the messages they send.

The trick is too simple

If you want to get the read receipts of a particular contact or contacts who has disabled the feature, then you need to first create a group with that contact or contacts. This way, if you send a message on WhatsApp to that person, you will get the timestamp of when the person has read your message even if the person has turned off the read receipts.
