UPI payments apps available in India
WhatsApp Payments, BHIM and Google Tez are the three UPI payment apps available right now.
WhatsApp launched the new feature that lets users send and receive money. This feature is based on UPI. This new update is a boost to the Digital India initiative launched on July 1, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging people of India to switch to the digital mode of payments. Following this, many companies launched platforms to boost the initiative.
After BHIM and Tez, Facebook-owned by WhatsApp has got the new digital payments feature based on UPI. All these three are based on UPI. UPI stands for Unified Payment Interface and here we will see how the same is going to work on WhatsApp, Tez and BHIM.
WhatsApp Payments
WhatsApp Payments is for the Android and iOS users. The update will let its users to send and receive money. This feature is based on UPI and was launched in India recently. If you have updated WhatsApp and did not get the feature, then you can enable the same if you receive a WhatsApp message from someone who has the feature activated. Remember that the payments feature can be used only when your mobile number is linked to a bank account.
After activation, WhatsApp lets you transfer money to others via direct messages. It can be used in group chats also. You need to identify a person from the group to send payment. There are other apps also to send or receive money via UPI.
BHIM
BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is an app developed by NPCI. It lets you choose a preferred bank. When you sign in, the app will ask you to choose a bank. If UPI is activated, then it will show the account number and you can see the option to send or receive money using IFSC code.
If you have not activated UPI, then you can activate it by entering the six digits of your debit card and its expiry date. You can then create a UPI pin after which you can carry out the functions.

Tez
Tez is from Google and based on UPI. It is also developed by NPCI. It lets you send money to others and the amount will be directly debited from the account that is synced with the app.
