Amazon is expanding its Prime Video features with the introduction of X-Ray Recaps, a generative AI-powered tool designed to help users quickly get back into their favorite shows without missing a beat.

This new addition to Prime Video’s suite of X-Ray features allows viewers to access concise, AI-generated summaries that provide essential plot points, character arcs, and cliffhanger moments, ensuring users can easily catch up on storylines.

Personalized Summaries to Enhance Viewing Experience

X-Ray Recaps builds on the already popular X-Ray feature, which has been a staple of Prime Video, offering cast details, trivia, and soundtrack information for scenes in real-time. However, with the addition of X-Ray Recaps, viewers can go a step further by receiving personalized, text-based summaries. These summaries are tailored to the exact point where a user pauses or resumes a show, making it simple for fans to recall previous episodes, character developments, and pivotal moments.

Amazon’s generative AI technology, Amazon Bedrock, powers the new X-Ray Recaps, working alongside custom AI models on Amazon SageMaker. These tools analyze video segments, dialogue, and subtitles to deliver relevant and spoiler-free recaps that enhance viewers’ experience without requiring them to skip back or fast-forward.

How X-Ray Recaps Works

The X-Ray Recaps feature employs advanced AI models that combine insights from video content and dialogue. Amazon Bedrock allows these models to generate contextually aware summaries by scanning episode-specific data. In doing so, X-Ray Recaps ensures users get a clear, concise rundown without encountering spoilers for upcoming scenes.

Through this AI-enabled approach, users can stay immersed in the story, whether they are starting a new episode or revisiting a series after a long break. The feature also supports full-season recaps, episode summaries, and highlights of particular moments, catering to a variety of viewing needs.

Availability and Future Expansion

X-Ray Recaps is currently in beta, with the feature initially available to Fire TV users in the U.S. Amazon plans to expand access to more devices by the end of 2024, ensuring that a broader audience can benefit from its recap capabilities. At launch, X-Ray Recaps is accessible across Amazon Original series, including titles such as Daisy Jones & The Six, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
