Facebook Gets New Logo: What Does It Signify?
Facebook has unveiled a new logo, which aims to represent its subsidiary companies, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Portal, and more. The new logo just says Facebook in a generic font. A GIF shows the logo changing colors that try to represent the Facebook brand.
Facebook Introduces New Logo
The Facebook logo GIF shows multiple colors like blue for the Facebook social media, pink for Instagram, and green for WhatsApp. Facebook says the logo will be put to use in the coming weeks and will be sported on Facebook products and marketing materials.
The new Facebook logo and branding was designed for clarity, says Antonio Lucio, the Chief Marketing Officer of Facebook. The updated logo "uses custom typography and capitalization to create a visual distinction between the company and app," he said.
New Facebook Logo: Why?
Now, we can see the new Facebook logo instead of the traditional blue Facebook logo in block fonts. But the question arises: Why? The Facebook logo has quite a few backstories. According to the Facebook Newsroom, the updated logo is a way of rebranding to make it clear to the users about the products coming from Facebook.
The new Facebook logo aims to distinguish the Facebook app from the Facebook company, which will have its branding says, Lucio. It was expected that Facebook would add ‘from Facebook' within some of its apps. The new logo also indicates that the Facebook company has a shared infrastructure and may depend on the same teams for data. The change in the brand targets for improved communication about the ownership structure to the people and business, Facebook says.
New Facebook Logo Amidst Controversy
Facebook is towered with controversies, starting with the Cambridge Analytica scandal resulting in a drop in users. It is believed that the new Facebook logo is trying to bring out a sense of optimism after the severe backlash the company face with data scandals.
The rebranded Facebook logo is an attempt to distinguish the parent company from the social media app. The idea here is to show people that the Facebook parent company is different from the infamous Facebook social media platform, in the hope to win back the users. However, will a rebranded logo rebrand the company itself?
