Google Enhances Gmail Mobile App with Automatic Email Translation: Here’s How to Use It
In a stride towards enhancing user experience and breaking down language barriers, Google is rolling out a feature that brings seamless email translation to its Gmail mobile application for Android and iOS.
In a recent blog post, Google shared its excitement about the launch of the integrated translation feature for Gmail mobile. For years, Gmail's web version has been a go-to tool for translating emails into over 100 languages. Now, Google is making it even easier by seamlessly integrating translation capabilities within the mobile app.

How It Works
The newly introduced translation feature in Gmail functions by automatically detecting the email's language. If the email's language differs from the user's preference, a notification banner will appear atop the email, offering a translation.
Users can select their desired translation language by tapping the 'Translate' option in the upper-right three-dot overflow menu of the email. This action opens the translation settings, enabling users to choose their desired output language.
User-Friendly Customization
One of the highlights of this feature is the flexibility it offers to users. For example, if an email arrives in a language different from the user's chosen language, such as receiving an email in French when the user's preference is English, they can tap on "Translate to English" to reveal the translated content. However, Google takes it a step further. Users have the autonomy to dismiss the notification if they choose not to translate the email, or they can opt to permanently exclude translations for emails in specific languages.
Versatility and Beyond
The translation feature boasts compatibility with an impressive array of languages, totaling up to a hundred. And this is just the beginning. Google has expressed its commitment to continuously expanding the range of supported languages, demonstrating its dedication to facilitating global communication.
Rollout Timeline
Android users can expect to experience this feature within the next two weeks, as Google plans to roll it out in stages. Meanwhile, iOS users won't have to wait much longer, as the feature is slated to make its debut on August 21st.
