Google Is Rolling Out Gemini App in India for Android & a Gemini Toggle for iPhone Users

Google has expanded the reach of its Gemini AI app, making it available to Android users in India and introducing a unique toggle feature for iOS devices. The move comes after the initial launch on February 8, which initially targeted users in the United States. Now, the Gemini app is extending its reach to more than 150 countries and territories worldwide.

Android Accessibility and Multilingual Support

The Gemini mobile app is now accessible in English, Korean, and Japanese languages, with plans for further expansion into additional languages and regions. Users can find the full list of supported countries on Google's official support page. The app is compatible with Android devices running on version 12 or newer, requiring a minimum of 4GB RAM for optimal performance.

iOS Integration: Gemini Toggle on Google App

While iOS users currently lack a dedicated Gemini app, they can harness its AI capabilities through a newly introduced toggle on the top-right corner of the Google app. This feature provides iPhone owners with seamless access to Gemini's chatbot functionality. As confirmed by Gadgets 360, the Gemini toggle is available on Google app version iOS 17.2.1.

System Requirements and Language Limitations

For optimal usage, the Gemini app demands a smartphone with a minimum of 4GB RAM, running Android 12 or later. Similarly, iOS users need to have version 16 or newer. As the AI service currently supports only English, Japanese, and Korean languages, it is accessible exclusively on devices configured with these language settings. Users must be signed in to a personal Google Account or a Workspace account with enabled features.

Gemini's Evolution and User Feedback

Jack Krawczyk, the Senior Director of Product at Google overseeing Gemini, disclosed that certain restrictions on image uploading and generation within the app were being relaxed. However, he emphasized responsible development, stating, "We'll continue to work through responsibly aligning on refusals with both images and text." Krawczyk addressed user concerns about clarity on Gemini's capabilities, assuring ongoing efforts to differentiate features in progress from those readily available.

Global Expansion and Future Prospects

In addition to its current rollout, Google is actively testing and expanding Duet AI features on platforms like Gmail, Docs, and Drive. Jack Krawczyk hinted at further features and expansions in progress, maintaining a commitment to narrowing the gap between works in progress and available features. The global expansion, initiated on Thursday, is anticipated to continue over the next few days.
