Google Pixel to Get 'Lookup' Feature for Identifying Unknown Callers in Phone App
A recent update spotted in the beta version (127.0.620688474) of the Google Phone app reveals a new feature called "Lookup" for Pixel users worldwide. This functionality, originally introduced in Japan (thanks to a report from PiunikaWeb), allows users to easily search for unknown phone numbers directly within the app.
How Lookup Works When a user taps on an unknown number in the "Recents" tab, a "Lookup" button will appear alongside existing options like "Add Contact" and "Message." Selecting "Lookup" will trigger a web search intent using the Google Search app, aiming to identify the caller.

Supplementing Existing Tools The primary purpose of "Lookup" isn't to replace established caller ID services like Truecaller. Instead, it serves as a complementary tool, offering users a way to quickly search for information about unknown callers. There's speculation about potential future integrations between "Lookup" and existing caller ID apps.

Potential Release Timeline and Additional Updates The "Lookup" feature initially debuted in Japan with the March Feature Drop. While official confirmation is still awaited, whispers suggest a potential global rollout alongside the upcoming June Feature Drop. This update also includes a subtle redesign for the emergency number dialer UI, enhancing its visual clarity.
Accessing the Beta Features For those eager to get their hands on "Lookup" and the redesigned emergency dialer UI in their beta form, a word of caution is necessary. Enabling these features requires manipulating specific flags within the Google Phone app's direct boot package on a rooted device. This process can yield unpredictable results depending on individual device configurations and is not recommended for casual users who value phone stability.
