SHAREit To Set Up Operations In South Africa, Says CEO
After receiving a good user response in India, SHAREit, a content sharing platform, is now planning to foray into the South African market. In an exclusive interaction with Gizbot, the company's CEO Karam Malhotra told about the users and future strategies.
Malhotra said. "We are operating in 100 plus countries right now. But now we will set up our operations in South Africa soon." Adding to that," Our strong markets are India and South East Asia. In fact, we are the number one app in the middle east, North Africa, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia."
Apart from foraying into other countries, the company is looking for tie-ups in social commerce. For the unaware, earlier the company has tied up with Hungama, Viacom, Youtube, Vimeo, and Daily Motion. But now, it is exploring tie-ups in social commerce. As a part of its future roadmap, the company is going to focus on short videos, gaming, and commerce. In addition, SHAREit is also planning to increase its revenue by monetizing its business further. "We didn't monetize this business for a very long time. We started monetizing in 2018. The app had no ads in the beginning," Malhotra informed us.
Meanwhile, data published by market intelligence firm Sensor Data pointed out that the popular apps in India among the top 10 included SHAREit, Hotstar, and Likee. However, the firm highlighted that YouTube was the most downloaded app on the App Store globally for Q2 2019 with more than 28.5 million installs, followed by TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook.
On the other hand, WhatsApp was the most downloaded app on the Google Play Store worldwide during the same period. The firm also said that WhatsApp has more than 168.4 million installs, followed by Messenger, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
