WhatsApp Business App Gets Catalog Feature, No More Annoying Product Photos

WhatsApp has been adding many new features to its instant messaging app meant for individuals of late. In an attempt to make sure that the business users are not left alone, the company has rolled out a new feature to the WhatsApp Business app.

The latest feature is catalog, which will let businesses add products and services to the showcase and share the same with their existing and potential customers. This lets customers browse and discover what they would like to purchase.

WhatsApp Business Catalog Feature

Previously, business users who use the WhatsApp Business app had to send photos of their products and services one at a time to provide information that will lure customers to buy their products. Now, prospective customers can take a glance at the full catalog of the products offered by the businesses of their internet within WhatsApp itself.

This new feature rolled out to WhatsApp Business makes business owners look professional as they need not keep sending pictures to customers. They can keep their customers engaged right within the chat without having to even visit a website.

Detailing on the new feature, the businesses can add information such as product description, product code, price and more for each item listed in the catalog. WhatsApp Business app hosts these catalogs to save the internal storage space on the phones of both the business users and their customers.

The catalog feature is available for businesses using both the iOS and Android versions of the WhatsApp Business app in select countries including Germany, Brazil, India, Mexico, Indonesia, the UK, and the US. It will be rolled out soon to the other markets across the world.

Our Take

Well, the new catalog feature for WhatsApp Business comes after the rollout of the shopping feature for Instagram earlier this year. The Instagram feature lets interested users click the 'checkout' option on the items available for sale and pay for the same within the app.

However, the WhatsApp Business catalog lacks the payment option and businesses will display a 'mobile storefront' that showcases their wares with prices and images. We can expect Facebook to roll out a similar feature as in Instagram to WhatsApp Business as well.
